About MagCode

MagCode develops and sells connection systems that use coded magnets for electrical currents. The company was founded in 1999 and was acquired by Rosenberger on May 1, 2009.

The product portfolio consists of two main systems: the MagCode PowerSystem and the MagCode PowerSystem Pro. Both systems are designed for 12V and 24V applications and feature a self-finding, short-circuit-proof magnetic connection. The connection is established between a PowerPort (socket) and a PowerClip (plug), with magnets in both components ensuring proper contact and serving as a switch; the contacts are only energized when the connection is correctly made. This design prevents accidental energization by other metallic objects. A key safety feature is the use of different magnetic codings for 12V and 24V systems to prevent mismating.

The PowerSystem Pro model includes a mechanical twist lock, which allows for higher current loads of up to 25A, provides a stronger connection, and eliminates the risk of arcing by ensuring the connector is fully mated before power is switched on. The standard PowerSystem supports currents up to 15A. These systems are marketed as a more reliable and robust alternative to traditional cigarette lighter-style connectors, especially for sustained charging or high-current loads. The connectors are waterproof when installed and have minimal mounting depth.

MagCode's products are primarily used in the automotive sector for applications such as trickle charging batteries in vehicles with long standby times like cars, emergency vehicles, RVs, motorcycles, and boats. They are also used to power external devices like coolers or headlights.
