About M0

M0 is a technology company providing a modular infrastructure platform that enables developers, fintechs, and other businesses to create and issue their own customized, application-specific stablecoins. Founded in 2023 by CEO Luca Prosperi and Chief Architect Gregory Di Prisco, both veterans of the decentralized finance space with experience from firms like MakerDAO, the company aims to move beyond the one-size-fits-all model of traditional stablecoins. Prosperi has a background in consulting and investment banking, while Di Prisco was previously a commodity futures trader and co-founder of Distributed Capital Partners. The company, legally domiciled in Zug, Switzerland, has raised a total of $100 million in funding, including a $40 million Series B round from investors such as Polychain Capital, Ribbit Capital, Bain Capital Crypto, and Pantera. This positions it to challenge the existing centralized issuer model by decoupling stablecoin programmability from reserve management. The platform's architecture is divided into three main layers—Design, Integration, and Issuance—allowing builders to configure token behaviors, monetization models, compliance rules, and access controls. M0 itself does not issue stablecoins, act as a custodian, or serve as a counterparty. Instead, it provides the foundational technology for regulated entities and other partners to connect to the platform and manage reserves, while developers control how their stablecoins function on-chain. A core feature of the M0 protocol is the creation of $M, a base money primitive token backed one-to-one by assets like cash and short-term U.S. Treasuries held by regulated custodians. Developers can then wrap this $M token to create their own branded stablecoins, such as MetaMask's mUSD, which inherit the reserve backing and liquidity of the M0 ecosystem. This model ensures that all stablecoins built on M0 are interoperable and share a unified liquidity layer, a significant departure from the fragmented nature of the current stablecoin market. The platform is designed to give builders flexibility and control over their financial stack, with partnerships with companies like Anchorage Digital and Stripe-owned Bridge enhancing its capabilities for regulated U.S. dollar issuance. By empowering businesses to launch their own digital currencies, M0 targets a wide range of clients, from crypto-native applications and wallets to global payment platforms.
