LUNAR CARGO
A Lunar surface based infrastructure, intended to function as an airport analogue on the Lunar surface
About LUNAR CARGO
LUNAR CARGO P.C. (ELLINIKA SELINODROMIA I.K.E.) is developing next-generation Lunar logistics and mobility infrastructure for non-atmospheric bodies (such as the Moon), enabling high-frequency, ultra-efficient, fuel-free cargo transportation between Low Lunar Orbit (LLO), the Lunar surface, and across the Lunar surface itself, including ballistic point-to-point transportation.
The company introduces two game-changing mechanical landing systems, both fuel-free and free from surface ejecta, addressing one of the most critical limitations of classical rocket-based Lunar landers.
Large payloads (>5 tonnes) are delivered using O.P.L.O.N.A.S. (Oversized Payload Lander On Non-Atmospheric Somata), a wheel-shaped spacecraft designed to land tangentially on a Lunar plateau in Oceanus Procellarum (Ocean of Storms). OPLONAS dissipates kinetic energy through controlled rolling friction, avoiding the use of rocket exhaust entirely and exploiting friction along a predefined landing corridor.
Towards the end of the run along the landing corridor, when the vehicle’s angular velocity has decreased and centrifugal forces are no longer sufficient to maintain the circular perimeter, an inflatable toroidal structure is deployed. This restores and preserves the wheel geometry at low rotational speeds, enabling controlled rolling, steering, and repositioning toward the final destination, including traversal of obstacles up to 27 meters.
Upon reaching the destination, the toroidal structure is deflated, allowing the cylindrical payload-containing hub to settle smoothly to ground level. After payload extraction, this hub can be up-cycled into a surface habitat, while its flexible axial and perimetric elements are reused to form a MACEDONAS selinodromio installation.
Compared to classical landers, OPLONAS generates only minor, non-omnidirectional ejecta, at significantly lower velocities (≤1.6 km/s), well below the Lunar escape velocity (2.8 km/s), and far below rocket exhaust speeds (~4 km/s).
Small parcels (~200 g) and modular payloads (several kilograms) are delivered using M.A.C.E.D.O.N.A.S. (Momentum Absorption Catcher on Non-Atmospheric Somata), a Lunar-surface-based system that captures, decelerates, steers, and lands incoming payloads using a safety net, producing zero surface ejecta.
MACEDONAS enables delivery frequencies of at least one payload every 111 minutes per location, with a mobile version designed for emergency and ad-hoc resupply of remote distressed teams. The system is also suitable for Lunar surface point-to-point ballistic transportation, with valid deployment locations requiring access to mountain peaks, enabling the necessary capture geometry.
Together, OPLONAS and MACEDONAS deliver an efficiency improvement exceeding 323% compared to classical landers, reducing required launchers by two-thirds and proportionally lowering environmental impact.
MACEDONAS is uniquely designed for organic and potentially exponential growth: delivered parcels may include wire segments that are collected by rovers and progressively added to the system, increasing capture capacity and throughput without dedicated infrastructure missions.
LUNAR CARGO P.C. is currently seeking qualification flights to Lunar orbit or the Lunar surface to deliver the wire quantities required for constructing and validating a Pilot MACEDONAS selinodromio.
