LivWell is growing in a budding industry
About LivWell
LivWell is a significant operator in the US cannabis market, functioning as a vertically integrated, multi-state cannabis company. It manages the entire lifecycle of its products, from seed to sale, ensuring control over quality at every stage. This integrated model encompasses cultivation, research, extraction, manufacturing, and retail sales. The company serves both recreational and medical cannabis customers through its network of dispensaries. LivWell generates revenue by selling a wide array of its own branded cannabis products, which it cultivates and manufactures in-house.
Founded in 2009 by John Lord, LivWell began as a single medical marijuana dispensary in Denver, Colorado. Lord, a New Zealand native and entrepreneur with a background in dairy farming and successfully building and selling a baby products manufacturing business, applied his business experience to the emerging cannabis industry. He entered the market in 2010 by partnering with an existing dispensary, Beyond Broadway, before taking full ownership to establish LivWell. The company expanded rapidly, particularly after Colorado legalized recreational sales in 2014, growing through acquisitions of other dispensaries. A major milestone occurred in October 2021 when Chicago-based PharmaCann, one of the largest privately held cannabis companies in the U.S., announced its acquisition of LivWell, a deal that was finalized in February 2022. Following the merger, John Lord was appointed to PharmaCann's Board of Directors.
LivWell's product portfolio is extensive, featuring over 40 hand-cultivated strains of cannabis flower. Beyond the flower itself, the company produces and sells a diverse range of items including edibles, topicals, concentrates, vaporizers, and CBD pet tinctures. By managing its own cultivation, extraction, and manufacturing processes, LivWell maintains exacting quality standards. Its retail dispensaries are staffed by knowledgeable budtenders, trained through an internal program called LivWell University, who assist customers in navigating the product selection to meet their specific needs.
