About Lieferando

Lieferando is a prominent online food ordering and delivery service operating primarily in Germany and Austria. The company was founded in Berlin in 2009 by Christoph Gerber, Jörg Gerbig, and Kai Hansen. In April 2014, Lieferando was acquired by the Dutch competitor Takeaway.com in a major deal for the food delivery sector. Following the acquisition, Takeaway.com merged the Lieferando brand with its existing German service, Lieferservice.de, to create one of the largest restaurant networks in Germany. The company's market position was further solidified after Takeaway.com acquired the German operations of Delivery Hero in 2018, including the brands Lieferheld, Pizza.de, and Foodora. In 2020, a merger between Takeaway.com and Just Eat created the global parent company, Just Eat Takeaway.com. Lieferando operates on a hybrid marketplace and logistics business model. It functions as an intermediary platform connecting customers with a wide network of restaurants and, more recently, grocery and convenience stores. The company generates revenue primarily through commissions charged to partner restaurants on each order, which can be up to 30% if Lieferando's own courier fleet is used for delivery and around 13% for restaurants using their own drivers. Additional revenue streams include delivery fees charged to customers, service fees, and advertising options for restaurants seeking better visibility on the platform. The platform offers a user-friendly app and website where customers can browse menus, place orders, and make payments through various options. A key feature is the Food Tracker®, which allows customers to monitor the progress of their delivery in real-time. In addition to its B2C services, Lieferando offers a corporate solution called "Lieferando for business". This service allows companies to provide employees with meal benefits through customizable allowances and digital payment cards. Businesses can manage expenses, control budgets, and sync payroll systems through a central dashboard, offering a flexible benefit for employees whether they are in the office or working remotely.
