About LetinAR

LetinAR is a South Korean company specializing in the development of optical systems for augmented reality (AR) smart glasses. Established in October 2016 by co-founders Jaehyeok Kim (CEO) and Jeonghun Ha (CTO) while they were attending Hanyang University, the company originated from an idea conceived while observing a solar eclipse in 2009. LetinAR operates on a B2B model, designing, manufacturing, and supplying its optical lens modules on an on-demand basis to smart glasses manufacturers. The business strategy involves providing a complete module that includes its proprietary lens and a microdisplay sourced from external partners, allowing clients to integrate this core component into their final products.

The company's core technology is the "Pin Mirror" (PinMR™) lens, which was later evolved into "PinTILT™" technology. This system utilizes the pinhole effect, embedding tiny mirrors, smaller than a human pupil, into an eyeglass lens. These mirrors reflect light from a microdisplay into the user's eyes, creating a virtual image that overlays the real world. This approach addresses several persistent challenges in the AR hardware market, such as the bulky form factors, narrow Field of View (FOV), and inaccurate color expression common in devices using traditional optical systems like waveguides or half-mirrors. LetinAR's solution enables the creation of AR glasses that are lightweight and resemble conventional eyewear. The technology also boasts a wider virtual screen, a greater Depth of Field (DOF) to reduce dizziness, and a simpler structure that facilitates mass production.

Since its founding, LetinAR has secured multiple rounds of funding, including an initial seed investment from Naver and a $3.6 million Series A round in 2018 from investors like Kakao Ventures and DSC Investment. The company has consistently showcased its technological advancements at major industry events like CES and MWC. A significant milestone was achieved in late 2024 through a partnership with NTT QONOQ Devices and Sharp Corporation, leading to the first mass-produced product, the MiRZA® XR smartglasses, which incorporate LetinAR's PinTILT™ optical modules. This collaboration underscores the company's transition from R&D to commercial-scale production. LetinAR holds numerous patents for its technology and has received several accolades, including CES Innovation Awards.
