The company was founded by Shubham Tyagi, an alumnus of the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, and Delhi College of Engineering. His personal experience with skin irritation from polyester-based activewear and identifying a market gap for stylish, sustainable options led to the creation of Kshm. The brand's name is derived from a Sanskrit word for 'earth,' reflecting its core focus on sustainability.

The company's history began in a basement in September 2022 and has since expanded, moving to a co-working space in December 2023 and its own studio by February 2025. Kshm's business model is centered on selling its products directly to consumers through its website, shopkshm.com. The brand targets individuals with an active, work-oriented lifestyle who seek comfortable and versatile clothing for activities like yoga, dance, travel, and office wear. Prior to Kshm, Tyagi co-founded Core Asana in December 2021 to promote yoga and acupressure.
