Kryptomon is a blockchain-based gaming company established in 2021 by a team including Umberto Canessa Cerchi, Bartolomeo De Vitis, Chris Ciszak, and Maurice De Vries. Canessa Cerchi, the CEO, was inspired by his childhood passion for Pokémon to create a real-world equivalent. The company, which also operates under the game studio name Pink Moon Studios, initially launched with a €250 investment in Facebook marketing and rapidly gained traction, collecting 80,000 emails within weeks. By June 2022, Kryptomon had secured $10 million in a Series A funding round led by NFX, with participation from other notable investors.

The business operates in the play-and-earn segment of the Web3 gaming market, targeting gamers and cryptocurrency enthusiasts. Its primary revenue stream is derived from the sale and trading of in-game assets, which are non-fungible tokens (NFTs), through its native marketplace. Players use the game's native BEP-20 token, $KMON, for all in-game transactions, including purchasing creatures, items, and paying for breeding fees. The company has also partnered with financial institutions to allow users to purchase crypto directly with credit or debit cards, aiming to ease the transition for traditional gamers into the Web3 space.

Kryptomon offers a suite of games where players raise, train, and battle digital monsters called Kryptomons. Each Kryptomon is a unique NFT with 38 distinct genetic parameters that determine its appearance, skills, and combat abilities. The gameplay combines elements of pet simulation, reminiscent of Tamagotchi, with turn-based RPG battles. Players must care for their Kryptomons by feeding and training them to improve their battle performance. The ecosystem includes several titles, such as 'KMON: Genesis,' a 2D battle game, and 'KMON: World of Kogaea,' a 3D open-world MMORPG. A key feature is the interoperability of the Kryptomon NFTs, allowing players to use their single digital pet across all games within the Kryptomon universe. The platform also features an augmented reality treasure hunt where players can find NFTs and other in-game items in the real world.
