KRKA Pharma Private Limited is a joint venture established in Hyderabad, India, in 2024. The entity is a strategic partnership between Slovenia-based generic pharmaceutical corporation Krka, d. d., Novo mesto, which holds a 51% stake, and Laurus Labs, a research-driven pharmaceutical and biotechnology company from India, which holds the remaining 49%. The joint venture aims to manufacture and develop pharmaceutical products for the Indian market and other global markets. Operations are based in Genome Valley, where the company is constructing its R&D and manufacturing facilities. The parent company, Krka, d. d., Novo mesto, is a leading global generic pharmaceutical company founded in Slovenia in 1954 by Boris Andrijanič. It has grown from a small laboratory into a multinational corporation with a presence in over 70 countries and more than 12,700 employees. Krka operates on a vertically integrated business model, controlling the entire process from the development of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to the marketing of finished products. This strategy is central to its Indian operations, which involve the development and manufacturing of APIs and formulations, as well as the procurement of key raw materials. Krka's core business is prescription pharmaceuticals, which constitute over 81% of its total sales. The company focuses on developing its own value-added generic products and single-pill combinations, particularly for treating cardiovascular diseases, central nervous system disorders, and gastrointestinal conditions. Non-prescription products and animal health products are also significant segments. The joint venture with Laurus Labs is expected to create synergistic effects, combining Krka's extensive experience in generic medicines with Laurus Labs' research and development capabilities to expand their collective market presence.
