About KnuEdge

KnuEdge, founded in 2005 as Intellisis Corporation by former NASA Administrator Daniel Goldin, operated as a neural technology and machine intelligence solutions provider based in San Diego, California. The company emerged from a decade-long stealth mode in June 2016, having secured $100 million in private funding to develop its technologies. Goldin, who served as NASA's longest-tenured administrator, brought his experience from leading the agency through a transformative period and overseeing complex projects like the International Space Station redesign to the firm. His career at NASA and prior at TRW Space and Technology Group was marked by work on advanced space technology and national security programs, a background that influenced KnuEdge's direction toward creating fundamentally different computing architectures.

The company's business was structured around two primary divisions, each targeting distinct markets with a dual hardware and software strategy. The first, KnuVerse, provided military-grade voice recognition and authentication software. This technology was designed to operate effectively in extremely noisy, real-world environments, a significant differentiator from consumer-grade voice assistants. KnuVerse targeted enterprise clients in sectors such as banking, healthcare, insurance, and entertainment, offering security through voice biometrics for applications, devices, and IoT. Revenue was generated through its commercial solutions and a cloud-based API service, Knurld.io, which allowed developers to integrate the voice authentication technology into their own products.

The second division, KNUPATH, focused on hardware, producing a neural computing processor called the LambdaFabric. This processor was engineered as an alternative to traditional CPU or GPU setups, designed specifically for the high-demand workloads of machine learning, signal processing, and data analytics. The KNUPATH architecture was designed for massive scalability, with the capability to connect up to 512,000 devices with exceptionally low latency, catering to data centers and IoT networks. The firm operated with this dual approach of developing software and the specialized hardware to run it on, a strategy intended to create a virtuous cycle of co-development. According to public filings, KnuEdge ceased operations around June 2018.
