Climate Labs GmbH, operating as Klima, was established in Berlin in 2019 by co-founders Markus Gilles, Jonas Brandau, and Andreas Pursian-Ehrlich. The trio, who first connected while working for various sustainable development NGOs, share a background in creating technology ventures aimed at social good, including projects related to civil discourse and quality journalism. The inspiration for Klima reportedly came after Gilles' backpacking trip from Alaska to Patagonia, which solidified his desire to address the climate crisis. This venture represents the third company the serial entrepreneurs have founded together.

Klima operates a mobile application that allows individuals to calculate and offset their carbon footprint. The app functions on a subscription-based model where users answer a series of lifestyle questions to determine their personal carbon emissions. Based on this calculation, a monthly fee is generated, the majority of which (70%) is directed to funding a portfolio of science-backed climate projects. Users can choose to support initiatives focused on tree planting, solar energy, or the distribution of clean cookstoves. The remaining portion of the subscription fee is allocated to the company's operational costs (10%) and marketing efforts to expand its user base (20%).

The Klima app provides users with a real-time tracker to monitor the impact of their contributions, showing metrics such as the amount of greenhouse gas emissions offset. Beyond offsetting, the application encourages users to actively reduce their carbon footprint by providing personalized tips and a checklist for adopting more climate-conscious habits. The platform targets individuals who are looking for a straightforward and effective way to take personal climate action. A significant milestone for the company was its acquisition by Wren, a business and productivity software company, on April 30, 2025. Before the acquisition, Klima had successfully raised $16.7 million in funding over two rounds, including a Series A round in April 2022. The app was launched on the App Store and Google Store in December 2020 and is available worldwide.
