Karnov Group
Leading provider of mission critical information in the areas of legal, tax and accounting, and environmental, health and safety
About Karnov Group
The story of Karnov Group begins not with a tech startup, but with a foundational belief in access to the law. In 1924, Magnus Karnov published his first collection of Danish laws, aiming to make legal information accessible to everyone. This publication, later named Karnovs Lovsamling, became the bedrock of the company, establishing a brand synonymous with legal expertise. For decades, the company built its reputation on publishing annotated law collections. The playbook was simple: provide essential, high-quality legal information. The turn of the century brought a critical inflection point. In 2001, the company launched Karnov Online, marking a strategic shift from a traditional publisher to a digital-first information provider. This pivot was crucial, setting the stage for future growth. The next chapter was driven by private equity. In 2012, Karnov Group was acquired from Thomson Reuters by GMT Private Equity, and later by Five Arrows Principal Investments in 2015. This period saw significant expansion through a series of acquisitions, strengthening its market position in Denmark and Sweden. A major milestone was reached on April 11, 2019, when Karnov Group went public with an IPO on Nasdaq Stockholm. This event solidified its transformation into a leading digital provider of mission-critical information for legal, tax, and accounting professionals, a long way from its origins as a single collection of laws.
