Isto Biologics
Orthobiologic solutions for bone regeneration and cell therapies
About Isto Biologics
Isto Biologics is a medical technology company specializing in orthobiologics, providing solutions for bone regeneration and autologous cell therapies to surgeons in the spine, orthopedics, and sports medicine markets. The company was officially formed in 2016 through the merger of St. Louis-based Isto Technologies, a firm focused on bone-regeneration, and Arteriocyte Medical Systems Inc., a Massachusetts-based device company. The integration was facilitated by its parent company, Isto Holdings, under the private equity firm Thompson Street Capital Partners (TSCP). In September 2025, Keensight Capital acquired a majority stake in the company, with TSCP retaining a minority share.

The company's business model is centered on providing surgeons with a portfolio of biologic materials and device-based tools for clinical use. Its products are used in over 15,000 surgical procedures monthly across more than 400 hospitals and clinics, primarily in the United States. Key product lines include the Magellan® Autologous Platelet Separator, a market-leading system for creating platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and concentrated bone marrow aspirate (cBMA) at the point of care. Another major offering is the InQu® Bone Graft Extender and Substitute, a biosynthetic scaffold composed of a resorbable polymer (PLGA) and hyaluronic acid, designed to create a microenvironment conducive to new bone formation. The Influx™ family of allografts, derived from 100% human cortical or cancellous bone, provides a natural scaffold for bone growth and is available in various forms like fibers, putty, and sponges.
Isto Biologics has expanded its portfolio and market presence through strategic acquisitions. In 2017, it acquired Progenicare, a medical sales and service company, which established a new service division for autologous therapy and blood management. A significant merger occurred in 2023 with Advanced Biologics, which integrated proprietary tissue processing methods and expanded Isto's bone graft offerings. The company also acquired TheraCell, Inc. in 2022. The current leadership includes Don Brown as Chief Executive Officer and Brian Barnes as President.
