About Intranets.com
Intranets.com was a privately held information technology company based in Burlington, Massachusetts, that specialized in providing online intranet solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. The company was founded to offer businesses, organizations, and groups secure, application-rich intranet sites.
The firm's core product was a web-based suite of applications designed to facilitate collaboration and information sharing within workgroups. This service included features for personal information management, e-mail, document management, discussions, and a database application. For a monthly per-user fee, clients received a platform that could be customized and was capable of synchronizing personal information with Microsoft Outlook and Palm OS devices. The business model was subscription-based, with prices starting around $9.95 per user per month, and offered volume and non-profit discounts. The company also had a channel program with about 100 reseller partners, which accounted for approximately 20 percent of its business.
On August 2, 2005, WebEx Communications announced its acquisition of Intranets.com, a deal that was finalized on September 12, 2005. WebEx acquired the company for approximately $45 million in cash, and Intranets.com became a wholly owned subsidiary. The acquisition was a strategic move for WebEx to integrate asynchronous collaboration tools with its real-time web meeting applications. At the time of the acquisition, Rick Faulk was the CEO of Intranets.com and continued to lead the subsidiary.
