About Interactive TKO

Interactive TKO (ITKO) was an enterprise software company established in 1999 by founders John Michelsen and Ruston Vickers. The company originated from their custom software consulting business, where they developed the initial test engine for what would become their flagship product, LISA, to conduct high-volume load testing for a Java-based trading network. From its first commercial release in 2002, ITKO focused on providing solutions for testing the diverse components of distributed, internet-based enterprise applications. Shridhar Mittal joined as president and CEO in September 2005.

The company's core business revolved around its LISA (Legacy to SOA) product suite, a platform designed to enhance the effectiveness of application development teams, particularly those working with custom applications, Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA), and cloud computing. The primary offering, known as service virtualization, allowed developers to simulate the behavior of constrained or unavailable systems, thereby removing dependencies and enabling parallel development. This technology addressed key challenges in complex development environments, such as systems being inaccessible due to security restrictions, ongoing development, or high-cost third-party access fees. By creating virtual models that mimicked the dynamic behavior, performance, and data of target systems, LISA enabled developers to test applications earlier in the development lifecycle, significantly reducing risks and accelerating time-to-market.

The product portfolio included LISA Service Virtualization, LISA Test for automated testing, LISA Pathfinder for automating the creation of virtual services, and LISA Release Automation for managing application deployments. These tools were targeted at large enterprises, and the company's client roster included five of the top six Fortune 500 commercial banks and five of the top six Fortune 500 telecommunications firms, as well as companies in insurance, retail, and government sectors. ITKO's business model was based on selling its software solutions to these large organizations to help them accelerate application delivery, improve service quality, and lower costs associated with lab infrastructure.

On June 29, 2011, CA Technologies announced its definitive agreement to acquire the Plano, Texas-based ITKO for approximately $330 million in an all-cash transaction. At the time of the acquisition, ITKO was profitable, with revenues of about $39 million for the twelve months ending March 31, 2011, and had around 120 employees who were expected to join CA Technologies. The acquisition was completed in August 2011, with ITKO becoming a new division within CA Technologies, and its product suite was subsequently rebranded as CA DevTest and later CA Service Virtualization.
