The story of Caliber Public Safety isn't about a single garage startup, but a strategic assembly of established players. Its origins trace back to a company called InterAct, founded in 1975 to create dispatch and mapping software for public safety agencies. For decades, InterAct grew by developing solutions like records management and mobile data systems for first responders. The major turning point came in March 2015, when InterAct was acquired by Harris Computer Systems. This wasn't just a simple acquisition; it was the foundational piece of a new, broader entity: Caliber Public Safety. Under Harris, a subsidiary of Constellation Software Inc., Caliber became a platform for acquiring other public safety software companies. Following the initial purchase of InterAct, Caliber went on to acquire SmartCOP in 2016 and Core Technology in 2017, integrating their specialized records management, dispatch, and mobile solutions. This roll-up strategy continued, adding companies like Cushing Systems to its portfolio. Today, Caliber Public Safety operates as a collection of these specialized businesses, providing an extensive suite of software for dispatch, records, and mobile operations to over 1,000 agencies across North America.
