In the early 2000s, long before the term 'Internet of Things' was common, a company called Intamac Systems was founded by Kevin Meagher. The company started in 2000, a time when dial-up internet was still prevalent, with a vision to connect everyday household devices to the web. Intamac developed a cloud-based platform that allowed users to remotely monitor and control things like security alarms, cameras, and eventually, energy meters, all through a computer or phone. The company's goal was to provide a white-label platform for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and service providers, enabling them to offer connected products without building the underlying infrastructure themselves. They built partnerships with major companies like D-Link and British Telecom to launch solutions in the UK, US, and Australia. Over the years, Intamac raised significant venture capital, securing around $20.2 million in total funding from investors to fuel its growth and international expansion. A major event in the company's journey occurred in September 2016, when it was acquired by FireAngel Safety Technology Group (formerly Sprue Aegis) for approximately $3.7 million. The acquisition was part of FireAngel's strategy to integrate Intamac's IoT software into its own range of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, creating a new generation of connected safety products. Today, Intamac operates as a subsidiary, continuing to develop the connected home technology it pioneered over two decades ago.
