About InnoPath Software
InnoPath Software, established in 1999 as DoOnGo Technologies and rebranded in 2003, carved a significant niche in the mobile device management (MDM) sector. The company provided critical technology to wireless operators and mobile device manufacturers, enabling them to remotely connect with, configure, troubleshoot, and secure end-user mobile devices. Its client roster included major global operators such as AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and China Unicom, alongside device manufacturers like Samsung, Nokia, and LG. Based in Sunnyvale, California, InnoPath also maintained a global presence with offices in Sweden, China, the UK, Japan, and Korea.
The company's business focused on providing a suite of software solutions that addressed the entire lifecycle of mobile device support. A core offering was its firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) technology, which allowed for remote updates of device software, reducing operational costs and improving customer satisfaction. In 2005, InnoPath expanded its capabilities by acquiring the mobile device management product line from Openwave Systems. Its product line, such as the ActiveCare solution, provided a comprehensive platform for customer care, featuring tools for mobile diagnostics, configuration management, and security functions like remote lock and wipe for lost or stolen devices. This technology was designed to decrease call handling times for operators and increase first-call problem resolution, thereby reducing churn. The business model centered on licensing its server and client software to these large enterprise clients.
InnoPath was a key contributor to industry standards, acting as a founding member of the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and participating actively in its Device Management Working Group. Over its history, the company raised significant venture capital, amounting to over $56 million, before its strategic acquisition. In June 2016, Qualcomm acquired InnoPath Software, marking a major milestone in the company's journey and integrating its MDM technology into Qualcomm's broader portfolio. Following the acquisition, the company operated as part of Qualcomm until it was reportedly purchased by consulting firm Oliver Wyman in March 2024.
