About Infineta Systems

Infineta Systems, founded in 2008 by CEO Raj Kanaya and CTO K.V.S. Ramarao, specialized in Wide Area Network (WAN) optimization products designed for high-performance, latency-sensitive applications. The founders established the company to create advanced algorithms and hardware, addressing the scalability limitations they identified in existing data compression technologies. Headquartered in San Jose, California, the company successfully raised $30 million in two venture funding rounds from notable investors including Alloy Ventures, North Bridge Venture Partners, and Rembrandt Venture Partners.

The core of Infineta's product line was the Data Mobility Switch (DMS), which was announced in June 2011. This product was engineered to address the persistent challenge of TCP performance over long-fat networks. The DMS was a significant development in WAN optimization, capable of operating at throughput rates of 10 Gbit/s. It utilized a form of compression akin to data deduplication and was built on FPGA hardware with a multi-Gigabit switch fabric to minimize latency. The company's technology catered to enterprises needing to accelerate multi-gigabit traffic for critical operations such as business continuity/disaster recovery (BCDR), cross-site virtualization, and Big Data transfers between data centers.

Infineta Systems ceased operations by February 2013. Following its shutdown, a liquidator was appointed, and Riverbed Technology acquired some of the company's intellectual property and assets.
