Inertia Enterprises is a fusion power startup that launched as an independent company in August 2025. The company was co-founded by Andrea Kritcher, a lead designer from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) team that first achieved fusion ignition in 2022; Mike Dunne, a fusion power plant designer; and tech entrepreneur Jeff Lawson. The company is developing a new generation of mass-produced, low-cost lasers and fuel targets to enable commercial fusion energy. Inertia has stated its goal is to build a gigawatt-scale power plant capable of powering a city with over a million people. To accelerate its development, Inertia Enterprises has established a significant partnership with LLNL, which includes research agreements and the licensing of nearly 200 patents covering various technologies. This relationship also facilitates public-private collaboration and technology transfer, which was instrumental in allowing Kritcher to co-found the company.
