About IMX Exchange
Intelligent Medicine Exchange (IMX), operating as IMX Exchange, is positioned to introduce novel risk management tools to the U.S. healthcare sector, which constitutes nearly 20% of the nation's GDP. Founded in 2021 by James Plante, Gregory C. Simon, and Jeff Feldman, the company is establishing the first financial exchange dedicated to the healthcare economy. The founders bring a wealth of experience from healthcare, technology, and financial markets. Plante has a two-decade background in these sectors, Simon previously served at Pfizer and was the Executive Director of the White House Cancer Moonshot, and Feldman has 45 years of experience in healthcare finance, including developing healthcare-related ETFs.
IMX Exchange plans to operate as a Designated Contract Market (DCM), having received regulatory approval from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) in January 2024. This milestone allows the exchange to offer futures and options contracts on various components of the healthcare system. The company's business model centers on creating a transparent, two-sided marketplace for hedging risk and investing in a new asset class tied to healthcare costs. Its clients include a broad range of market participants such as insurance providers, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, healthcare systems, investment managers, global banks, and market makers. Revenue will be generated through trading and clearing fees on its platform.
The core of IMX's product offering will be cash-settled futures and options on futures contracts. The initial product will be a futures contract based on the Morningstar US Healthcare Index, which tracks about 170 U.S. public healthcare companies. A key component of IMX's strategy is the development of proprietary, patent-pending cost indexes derived from anonymized medical data on claims, diagnoses, and treatments. These indexes will underpin a suite of derivative products designed to manage risks associated with fluctuations in treatment costs and procedure volumes. For clearing services, IMX has entered into an agreement with the Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGEX), which will manage trade clearing, exposures, and security deposits for market participants.
