The group's history is intertwined with its subsidiary, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS, which was founded in 1999 by Professor Wilhelm Gantner. Initially an electronic engineering firm, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS shifted its focus to product development and sales after securing pilot orders from the automotive and logistics sectors. Over the years, it expanded through strategic acquisitions, including Baumer Ident GmbH in Germany (2006), WTEK/Tunnelcom in Norway (2009), and Satellite Telemetry Pty Ltd in Australia (2010), establishing a global presence. In early 2024, IDENTEC GROUP AG entered into bankruptcy proceedings.

Through its subsidiaries, the group has provided wireless tracking and hardware services, specializing in real-time RFID asset tracking to help companies monitor assets across the value chain. Its business model focused on developing and selling hardware and software solutions for field operations in demanding industries such as oil and gas, marine and ports, mining and tunneling, and smart factories. Revenue was generated from new project milestone payments, add-on business with existing customers, and recurring service and maintenance agreements.

The product suite included solutions like CREW COMPANION for personnel safety and mustering on offshore rigs and in mines; TERMINAL TRACKER for improving productivity and safety in container terminals; REEFER RUNNER for automated management of refrigerated containers; and ASSET AGENT for real-time asset identification and localization in manufacturing plants. These solutions aimed to provide complete visibility and control, thereby increasing efficiency and safety in harsh industrial environments.
