The company was founded in 2005 by PC Musthafa along with his cousins Abdul Nazer, Shamsudeen TK, Jafar TK, and Noushad TA. The inspiration came from observing the inconsistent quality of locally available idli and dosa batter. With an initial investment of ₹50,000, they started operations in a 50-square-foot kitchen in Bengaluru, initially supplying 10 packets of batter to 20 local stores. PC Musthafa, who came from a humble background in a small village in Kerala, used his MBA from IIM Bangalore and prior work experience at companies like Motorola and Citibank to steer the company's growth. His journey from a laborer's son to the CEO of a major food brand underscores the company's trajectory.
ID Fresh Food's core offering is its preservative-free, ready-to-cook batters, particularly for idli and dosa, which remain its primary revenue source. The product line has since expanded to include Malabar parotas, chapatis, paneer, curd, filter coffee decoction, and vada batter. A key selling point is the use of natural ingredients and traditional preparation methods, which appeals to health-conscious urban consumers and busy professionals. The company manages its own end-to-end supply chain, using technology and a zero-inventory model to maintain product freshness and timely delivery across its network. In fiscal year 2024, the company achieved profitability with revenues of ₹558 crore. The company has received significant funding from investors including Premji Invest, NewQuest Capital Partners, and Helion Venture Partners, enabling its expansion across more than 45 cities in India, the UAE, the US, and the UK.
