Hynaero

HYNAERO is a Bordeaux-based aerospace startup focused on developing the FREGATE-F100, a revolutionary amphibious firefighting aircraft designed to meet the escalating challenges posed by large-scale and frequent wildfires exacerbated by climate change. The FREGATE-F100 is engineered to scoop up to 10 tons of water directly from lakes or seas without landing, a significant capacity increase compared to existing firefighting aircraft. This capability allows for greater autonomy and a higher rate of intervention, enabling rapid and sustained firefighting missions. The aircraft features modern design elements such as fly-by-wire controls for enhanced precision and safety, integrated predictive maintenance through digital twin technology to maximize operational availability, and advanced avionics including head-up displays for better situational awareness. Supported by partnerships with Airbus Defence and Space and ONERA, the French aerospace lab, HYNAERO aims to restore European sovereignty in aerial firefighting capabilities, replacing aging fleets dominated by legacy models like the Canadair CL-415. The company’s vision extends beyond firefighting, with potential applications in cargo transport, search and rescue, maritime patrol, and passenger services. Backed by regional and European funding, HYNAERO is positioning the FREGATE-F100 as a cornerstone in the reindustrialization of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine aerospace sector, targeting a first prototype flight by 2029 and market entry by 2031.
