About Hyer

Hyer is a two-sided marketplace that connects businesses with on-demand labor for a variety of roles. The company was officially founded in 2018, with the app launched in 2019 by Dave Dempsey, who now serves as CEO. Dempsey, along with co-founders Mario, Jen, and Pankaj, were all former executives at PepsiCo. The idea for Hyer was born out of their discussions about work inefficiencies and the future of employment. Dempsey, who spent 37 years at PepsiCo and last served as the Vice President of Sales Transformation, was inspired by the rise of the gig economy and saw an opportunity to apply it to the commercial sector to address challenges in staffing, turnover, and retention.

The Hyer platform operates through a mobile application available for both businesses and workers, referred to as "Taskers". Businesses can post tasks for various needs such as general labor, stocking, warehousing, and merchandising. They can then select from a pool of qualified, fully-vetted Taskers who have undergone background checks through Hyer's partner, Checkr. The platform allows businesses to scale their workforce in real-time without sign-up fees, contracts, or minimums. Hyer's business model is based on a transactional fee applied as a markup on the hourly rate set by the customer. For workers, the app provides a flexible way to find and apply for local gigs, with the benefit of instant payout upon task completion. As of 2021, Hyer had expanded to thousands of locations across 27 states with over 400,000 Taskers on the platform.

Hyer's initial clients included major national retailers like Meijer, which utilized the platform across its 246 stores. In June 2021, the company announced a Series A funding round of $10.1 million.
