About Hubub
Hubub, Inc. was co-founded in 2011 by technology entrepreneur Peter L. Corsell. Corsell, an investor and entrepreneur with a background in clean technology, enterprise software, and cybersecurity, had previously founded GridPoint in 2003. His experience also includes serving with the Central Intelligence Agency and the U.S. Department of State.
The company operated as an online community where users could create, share, and discover multimedia content channels focused on their interests. The platform allowed individuals to build feeds containing articles, images, and videos on specific topics, which could be shared publicly or with private groups for collaboration. The business model emphasized that users retained ownership of their created content and that personal information was not sold to advertisers.
A significant milestone for Hubub was its partnership with Bell Media, which led to a major investment and a promotional campaign in Canada. This collaboration included a television commercial during the Super Bowl XLIX broadcast in 2015, which helped the platform gain a considerable following in the Canadian market. In 2016, the digital marketing services conglomerate Stagwell, backed by Steve Ballmer, acquired Hubub. Following the acquisition, the company was renamed Stagwell Technologies, marking the conclusion of the Hubub brand as an independent entity.
