The idea originated from Figge's own experiences with extended business travel, where he identified a gap in the market for a fully digital booking process for temporary, furnished accommodations that offered more comfort and utility than a hotel.

The platform serves corporate clients and individual business travelers seeking accommodations for 28 days or longer. Homelike's business model is centered on providing a B2B-oriented marketplace that connects property owners and managers with a large pool of professional tenants. It digitizes the entire rental process, including search, booking, payment, and digital lease agreements, eliminating the need for in-person viewings. For property suppliers, it offers access to corporate tenants, secure rent collection, and tools to reduce vacancies. Revenue is generated through this marketplace model, and the company has attracted significant funding over the years, including a $14 million funding round in 2018.

Despite its growth and expansion, including a launch in the U.S. in 2021, Homelike ceased its operations in March 2025. In July 2025, the company's digital assets, including its domain and brand, were acquired by Roomless Srl, the Italian firm behind the Spacest.com platform, which now redirects Homelike's web traffic to its own service.
