Hitomorrow
Multi-mission satellite altimetry for inland water monitoring
About Hitomorrow
DAHITI, the Database for Hydrological Time Series of Inland Waters, is a service providing water level time series for lakes, reservoirs, rivers, and wetlands. Developed in 2013 by the Deutsches Geodätisches Forschungsinstitut der Technischen Universität München (DGFI-TUM), the platform utilizes data from multi-mission satellite altimetry for hydrological applications. The service is offered free of charge to the user community after a registration process.
DAHITI's methodology is based on an extended outlier rejection and a Kalman filter approach. This allows for the combination of cross-calibrated data from a variety of altimeter missions, including Envisat, ERS-2, Jason-1, Jason-2, TOPEX/Poseidon, and SARAL/AltiKa. The approach is designed to merge irregularly spaced observations from different locations into a single, reliable time series for each monitored body of water. Validation of DAHITI's data through comparisons with in-situ gauge data has shown RMS differences ranging from 4 to 36 cm for lakes and 8 to 114 cm for rivers.
The data and products are distributed without warranty, and users are required to cite the products in their work. An API is available for users to programmatically access the water level data after providing credentials.
