Heuron is a medical artificial intelligence company founded in 2017 by Dr. Donghoon Shin, who also serves as CEO. The South Korean-based startup specializes in developing AI-based software that provides diagnostic assistance for central nervous system (CNS) diseases. The company's core focus is on neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and strokes.

Dr. Shin, an associate professor at Gachon University Gil Medical Center with an M.D. and Ph.D. from Ajou University College of Medicine, leveraged his expertise in neurology to develop clinical decision support systems. Heuron's business model centers on providing its software solutions to clinicians and medical facilities. These tools analyze brain imaging data from MRI and non-contrast CT scans to help medical professionals make earlier and more accurate diagnoses. For instance, the software can quantify brain atrophy to screen for dementia or identify the nigrosome 1 region to aid in Parkinson's diagnosis.

The company has developed two main product suites: the Heuron AgingCare Suite for degenerative brain diseases and the Heuron StroCare Suite for stroke diagnosis. Products like Heuron ICH can automatically detect intracranial hemorrhages from non-contrast CT scans, while others analyze MRI data to track the progression of Alzheimer's by measuring changes in brain volume. Heuron has achieved significant regulatory milestones, including multiple 510(k) clearances from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European CE certifications, allowing it to penetrate the U.S. and other international markets.
