Healthloop
Saas-based platform enabling medical practices to monitor and communicate with patients during the recovery process
About Healthloop
HealthLoop, founded in 2009 by Dr. Jordan Shlain, operated as a cloud-based analytics platform focused on patient engagement and care coordination. The company's primary offering was a SaaS-based care management platform that enabled medical practices to monitor patient health and communicate with them during the recovery process. Its services were designed to automate follow-up care, track patient progress, and monitor clinical areas of concern, thereby improving interactions and satisfaction for providers, hospitals, and health systems. The platform functioned by sending timely information and automated daily check-ins to patients, allowing care teams to identify at-risk individuals in real-time and intervene proactively.
The business model centered on providing this technology to healthcare organizations of various sizes, from single specialty practices to large health systems like Cedars-Sinai Health System, UCSF Health, and Advocate Aurora Health. Revenue was generated through this SaaS platform that aimed to reduce hospital readmissions, manage chronic diseases, and improve overall patient outcomes. The system integrated with major EHR platforms, including Epic, Allscripts, and athenahealth, to streamline workflows. The platform featured more than 160 dynamic care plans, remote patient monitoring, virtual check-in, and image and video evaluation capabilities. A mobile app for physicians, HealthLoop+ MD, provided push notifications for clinical alerts and used Touch ID for secure authentication.
Todd Johnson joined as CEO approximately two and a half years after its founding and was instrumental in its growth. A serial entrepreneur with a background in computer science from Cornell University, Johnson previously founded and led Salar, Inc., an acute care physician documentation solution, to a successful acquisition in 2011. His focus has consistently been on building products that connect patients with their care teams to address market needs. Under his leadership, HealthLoop expanded its client base significantly. In November 2018, HealthLoop was acquired by GetWellNetwork, a patient engagement company. This strategic acquisition was aimed at combining GetWellNetwork's inpatient solutions with HealthLoop's ambulatory and post-discharge expertise to create a comprehensive, cross-continuum digital health platform. Following the acquisition, HealthLoop's platform became the foundation for a new integrated solution called GetWell Loop, and Todd Johnson assumed the role of Senior Vice President & General Manager for the new product line, overseeing the Silicon Valley office.
