RV Camping at Wineries, Breweries, Farms & More with Harvest Hosts
About Harvest Hosts
Harvest Hosts operates a membership-based platform connecting the RV (recreational vehicle) community with a network of unique overnight parking locations. The company’s core business revolves around an annual subscription model, which provides RVers with access to a portfolio of thousands of host locations, including farms, wineries, breweries, museums, and other attractions. For a yearly fee, members receive unlimited overnight stays at these locations with no additional camping fees. The business generates revenue primarily through these membership subscriptions, which range from approximately $99 to $179 per year. While members are not obligated to make purchases, they are strongly encouraged to patronize the host businesses, creating a symbiotic relationship that provides an additional revenue stream directly to the hosts. This model has facilitated over $100 million in sales for its small business partners to date.
The concept was brought to the United States by founders Don and Kim Greene in 2010, inspired by similar agritourism networks in Europe. They recognized an untapped market for more authentic travel experiences beyond traditional campgrounds. The company was acquired in 2018 by Joel Holland, a technology entrepreneur and avid RVer who, along with his wife Mary Ashley, had been a user of the service. Holland’s experience as founder of the stock media company Storyblocks provided him with the technological and marketing acumen to scale the platform significantly. Under his leadership, the company grew from 600 locations and 6,000 members to a network of over 9,500 locations and more than 250,000 members. This expansion was accelerated by a $37 million Series C funding round led by Stripes in March 2021. Strategic acquisitions have also been a key part of the growth strategy, including the purchases of Boondockers Welcome in 2021, Brit Stops in 2023, and the membership and events portion of Escapees RV Club in 2024.
Harvest Hosts provides a service for self-contained RVers, meaning their vehicles are equipped with their own power, water, and toilet facilities, as hosts are not required to provide hookups or services. The platform features a searchable map of host locations, host profiles, and a booking system that allows hosts to manage availability. The primary benefit for RVers is access to safe, scenic, and unique overnight stays that offer a richer experience than typical campgrounds. For the hosts, which are often small, family-run businesses, the program offers a no-cost way to attract new customers and generate sales from visiting members. This model directly supports local economies by driving tourism and spending to rural areas and small businesses.
