Parametric climate insurance for Brazilian agribusiness
About Guarda
Guarda is a Brazilian insurtech that provides parametric insurance to protect rural producers from extreme climate events such as drought, excessive rain, and intense heat or cold. The company was founded in 2024 by Paula Mendes Caldeira and Luiz Fernando Guerreiro. Caldeira has over a decade of experience in the financial market, with tenures at institutions like BTG Pactual, and is also a partner at Plugify, a fintech in which Porto Seguro is a shareholder. Guerreiro is a co-founder of Petlove, a major digital pet market platform also invested in by Porto.
The company's business model addresses the low penetration of traditional agricultural insurance in Brazil, where less than 10% of the production is covered, compared to 40% in developed markets. Guarda's solution is 100% digital, offering instant pricing, online contracting, and automated indemnities. It utilizes satellite data and agronomic models to monitor climate risks with high precision, enabling fast payouts, often within days, without the need for on-site inspections. This approach is designed to be more efficient and accessible than traditional insurance, which often involves complex pricing, extensive paperwork, and lengthy claim processes. The startup serves a wide range of producers, including those with non-certified cultivars or those operating in areas not covered by standard agricultural zoning.
In late 2025, Guarda raised R$4.5 million in a pre-seed funding round led by Randon Ventures, the investment arm of Randoncorp. The round also saw participation from angel investors with significant experience in agribusiness, insurance, and fintech, including executives from Lockton, former leaders of Marubeni Grãos Brasil, and the founders of Spin Pay and Solfácil. The capital is intended to consolidate the company's technological infrastructure and expand its service offerings across Brazil. Formerly known as Natu, the company won an award at the Agrimatching competition promoted by Rural during the 2025 Agrishow.
