About GRS

In 2005, a group of executives from the utility and construction sectors, including Iván Higueras, Domingo Vegas, and Juan Pedro Alonso, launched an initiative to create an investment vehicle for solar energy projects. This became Grupo Gransolar, and from this, the construction arm GRS was born. The initial strategy was clear: build photovoltaic plants in Spain, starting with their first ten, and then expand. The company quickly established an international footprint, installing megawatts in Italy, the US, and Portugal. A key part of the playbook was vertical integration; GRS was established as part of Gransolar, a group of companies specializing in solar energy and battery storage. This structure gave them deep control over the entire process, from engineering and manufacturing to construction and operations. This integration allowed for greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness, which became a significant competitive advantage. Their global expansion was methodical, entering markets like South Africa, Australia, and across the Americas. By 2021, a significant event marked their growth trajectory when the private equity firm Trilantic became an equity partner, providing a fresh infusion of capital to fuel further expansion. Today, under the leadership of CEO Juan Pedro Alonso, GRS has constructed over 2 gigawatts of power across 19 countries, cementing its position as a major player in building the world's renewable energy infrastructure.
