Grid Aero is a San Leandro, California-based aerospace company developing a network of autonomous, long-range, and low-cost cargo aircraft for the defense and commercial sectors. Founded in 2024 by CEO Arthur Dubois, the company emerged from stealth with $6 million in seed funding and a Direct to Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract from AFWERX, the U.S. Air Force's innovation unit.

It is designed to carry payloads of thousands of pounds over thousands of miles, specifically aiming for a range of around 2,000 miles with a capacity between 1,000 and 7,000 pounds. The business model is centered on creating a distributed network of these aircraft, which operate as a resilient mesh, allowing a small ground team to manage a large fleet. This approach aims to solve logistical challenges, particularly for the military, by splitting cargo across many low-cost planes, making it an uneconomical target for expensive anti-aircraft missiles.
