Greetz
E-commerce concept to create and personalize greeting cards online and have them printed and shipped locally
About Greetz
Greetz operates as an online e-commerce platform in the Netherlands, specializing in personalized greeting cards and gifts. The company was founded in 2004 by Johan van Vulpen and Simen Schimmel. Their entrepreneurial journey began in 2001 with a venture called Centiment, creating commemorative cases for Dutch Guilder coins before the transition to the Euro. This initial success led them to explore scalable business ideas, combining technology, consumer products, and branding, which ultimately resulted in the launch of Greetz.
The business serves individual consumers looking to send personalized items for various occasions. Greetz's business model is vertically integrated; it handles the design, production, and sale of its products. The core offering is an extensive collection of customizable greeting cards that can be personalized with photos, text, and other embellishments. Over the years, the company has significantly expanded its product portfolio beyond cards to include a wide variety of gifts such as flowers, chocolates, wine, balloons, beauty products, and home accessories. This expansion transformed the company from a card specialist into a broader platform for personal gifting. Revenue is generated directly from the sale of these cards and gifts through its website and mobile apps.
Significant milestones include the acquisition of Kaartenhuis, the largest e-card site in the Netherlands, in 2008. In August 2018, Greetz was acquired by the Photobox Group, the parent company of the UK's leading online card retailer, Moonpig. This transaction positioned the combined entity as a European market leader in the online greeting card sector. Subsequently, Greetz and Moonpig formed the Moonpig Group, which became a publicly traded company on the London Stock Exchange in February 2021. As part of Moonpig Group, Greetz has continued to evolve, migrating to a unified technology platform in 2022 and launching its own subscription service, Greetz Plus, in 2024.
