About Greenidge

The story of Greenidge Generation is a tale of industrial transformation. The facility began its life in 1937 as a coal-fired power plant in Dresden, New York. In 2014, private equity firm Atlas Holdings, co-founded by Andrew Bursky and Timothy Fazio, purchased the distressed plant. Atlas converted the facility from coal to cleaner-burning natural gas, bringing it back online in 2017. A significant pivot occurred in 2020 when Greenidge began using its own low-cost power to mine Bitcoin, becoming the first vertically integrated power generator and bitcoin miner of its scale in the United States. This move integrated their expertise in running industrial power assets with the high-growth cryptocurrency market. The next major step was entering the public markets. In September 2021, Greenidge completed a merger with Support.com, a provider of technical support solutions. This transaction resulted in Greenidge Generation Holdings Inc. being listed on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol "GREE". The deal, led by then-CEO Jeff Kirt, was designed to provide capital for expanding its mining operations.
