About Global Mobility Service
Global Mobility Service (GMS) is a Japanese FinTech startup founded by CEO Tokushi Nakashima to address the challenges faced by 1.7 billion people globally who lack access to traditional financial services for vehicle purchases. Nakashima, drawing from 16 years of experience in the electric vehicle industry, established GMS to create a system where hardworking individuals are evaluated fairly, enabling them to secure employment and improve their livelihoods. The company operates primarily in Japan and ASEAN countries like the Philippines, Cambodia, and Indonesia.
The core of GMS's business model is a financial inclusion service that connects financial institutions, auto dealers, and individuals who need vehicles for work but cannot pass conventional credit screenings. Its clients are typically gig workers or those in mobility-related jobs, such as ride-sharing and delivery services. GMS enables financing for this demographic by mitigating credit risk for lenders through its proprietary IoT technology. The company has secured significant investment from over 16 publicly listed companies and major corporations, including SoftBank, Credit Saison, DENSO, and Sumitomo Corporation.
GMS has developed two key patented technologies: the Mobility-Cloud Connecting System (MCCS) and the Mobility Service Platform (MSPF). The MCCS is an IoT device installed in vehicles that can remotely monitor location and, crucially, control the engine's activation. If a borrower fails to make a loan payment, the engine can be safely deactivated, significantly reducing default risk for financial partners. The data collected by the MCCS is fed into the MSPF, a platform that analyzes driver behavior and vehicle data. This allows GMS and its financial partners to visualize a driver's work ethic and build a credit profile for them, opening up further financial opportunities. The technology can be fitted to a wide range of mobility types, including cars, motorcycles, three-wheelers, and even construction machinery.
GMS has established numerous strategic partnerships to expand its services. Recent alliances include collaborations with Gojek in Indonesia to provide drivers with financial access and a partnership with Sumitomo Corporation Group in the Philippines to build next-generation mobility services. The company has received multiple awards for its innovative business model and social impact, including the "Nikkei Award" at the FIN/SUM2022 Impact Pitch.
