Glitch
Glitch is the friendly community where everyone builds the web
About Glitch
Glitch operates as a collaborative platform where developers can create, share, and host full-stack web applications. Its history traces back to Fog Creek Software, a company founded in 2000 by Joel Spolsky and Michael Pryor, which was also instrumental in the creation of influential tools like Trello and Stack Overflow. Recognizing the need for a better developer-focused work environment, Spolsky and Pryor established Fog Creek with a people-first culture.

The platform itself, initially launched as Hyperdev in 2017, was rebranded as Glitch. This evolution was steered by CEO Anil Dash, a technologist and writer who joined in December 2016 and aimed to cultivate an inclusive and creative coding community. His background in advocating for ethical and humane technology shaped Glitch's direction. Under his leadership, the company, previously known as Fog Creek, officially renamed itself to Glitch, Inc. in September 2018 to align its corporate identity with its flagship product. In a notable move in March 2020, Glitch became one of the first tech startups to recognize its workers' union.
Glitch's business model targets a wide spectrum of users, from individual hobbyists and students to professional developers and large companies like Google, Stripe, and Etsy. The platform functions as an online IDE with features like instant deployment, automated version control, and seamless integration with Git repositories such as GitHub and GitLab. A key feature is its "remixable" code, allowing users to take existing applications, modify them, and deploy their own versions, fostering a collaborative and educational environment. Revenue was generated through a freemium model, with a paid subscription tier called "Boosted Apps" that offered enhanced features like more RAM and storage. In May 2022, Fastly, an edge cloud platform, acquired Glitch, integrating it to enhance its developer experience. Following the acquisition, Glitch's CEO Anil Dash became Fastly's VP of Developer Experience. However, in May 2025, it was announced that project hosting on Glitch would end on July 8, 2025.
