Glide Pharmaceutical Technologies

Glide's core technology consisted of a reusable, spring-powered actuator and a disposable, pre-filled cassette containing a tiny, solid rod of the active drug or vaccine. This system was designed to push the solid dosage into the skin, where it would dissolve and release the medication. The technology aimed to improve upon traditional needle-and-syringe injections by eliminating needlestick injuries, avoiding the need for drug reconstitution, and improving the thermal stability of formulations, which could remove the requirement for refrigeration. The pen-sized device was designed for easy self-administration. Clinical testing indicated a strong patient preference for the Glide SDI over conventional needles and syringes.

The assets and technology developed by Glide are now part of Enesi Pharma's ImplaVax® platform. Enesi Pharma, led by CEO David Hipkiss, focuses on developing injectable solid-dose vaccine products. The company has engaged in numerous collaborations to advance this technology, including partnerships with Public Health England (PHE) for vaccines against threats like anthrax, the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) for a Shigella vaccine, and the University of Oxford for a plague vaccine. Enesi has also received funding from Innovate UK and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support its development of thermostable, solid-dose vaccines for diseases such as measles and rubella.
