Glass Imaging is a computational photography firm founded in 2019 by former Apple engineers Ziv Attar and Tom Bishop, Ph.D., the minds behind the iPhone's Portrait Mode. Their journey began at Apple, where they led computational photography projects. Attar previously founded LinX Imaging in 2011, which developed dual-camera systems and was acquired by Apple in 2015. Bishop has over 15 years of experience in AI, computer vision, and computational photography, with a background in developing core technologies for the iPhone. Together, they aim to bridge the image quality gap between compact smartphone cameras and professional DSLR or mirrorless cameras.

The company's core business revolves around developing and licensing its intellectual property, primarily its GlassAI software, to manufacturers of camera-equipped devices. Glass Imaging's flagship product, the GlassAI Neural Image Signal Processor (ISP), replaces traditional ISP pipelines. It leverages artificial intelligence and custom neural networks to process raw image data directly from the camera sensor. This software is tailor-made for each specific camera module, learning to reverse lens aberrations, sensor imperfections, and noise. By co-designing its AI algorithms with novel optical hardware, the company enables the use of larger sensors in thin form factors without the typical lens bulge, capturing significantly more light. The technology works by processing bursts of RAW images, fusing them to recover fine textures and deliver high-fidelity visuals with accurate detail, even in low-light conditions and across zoom ranges, without creating the "hallucinatory" artifacts common in other AI enhancement methods. This allows for what the company describes as a 10x boost in camera performance, producing sharper, cleaner images.
