About GiveGab
GiveGab, Inc. operated as a fundraising and engagement platform for nonprofit organizations before its strategic consolidation under the Bonterra brand. The company was founded in Ithaca, New York, in 2011 by Charlie Mulligan and Aaron Godert, both graduates of Cornell's Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management. Their journey began with an initial concept to connect volunteers with local nonprofits. Recognizing a greater need for financial support tools, the founders pivoted the business to focus on fundraising. Mulligan, with a background in executive leadership and nonprofit management, served as CEO, while Godert, with experience in engineering leadership at Cornell, acted as COO and head of technology.
The company's core offering was a software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform tailored for cause-based organizations, community foundations, educational institutions, and public media. GiveGab became particularly well-known for facilitating "Giving Days," large-scale, community-wide fundraising events. Its platform provided tools for online donations, peer-to-peer fundraising, donor management, and volunteer engagement, helping organizations build lasting relationships with supporters. Revenue was generated through its software subscriptions and transaction fees on donations processed through the platform. By 2021, the platform had helped over 40,000 nonprofits raise billions of dollars.
A significant milestone in GiveGab's growth was the acquisition of Kimbia, an online fundraising firm, in early 2018, which expanded its customer base and technological capabilities. This was followed by a Series A funding round that raised over $7 million. On April 14, 2021, GiveGab was acquired by EveryAction, a major nonprofit software provider. This acquisition was part of a larger consolidation strategy in the social good technology sector. Subsequently, EveryAction and other acquired entities like Social Solutions and Network for Good were brought together under the newly formed Bonterra brand in 2022, a company backed by private equity firm Apax Partners. The technology and expertise from GiveGab now form the foundation of Bonterra's Giving Day and fundraising engagement solutions.
