About GIVE.asia
GIVE.asia operates as a social enterprise and online philanthropic crowdfunding platform, enabling individuals and organizations to support social causes. The company was founded in 2009 by Pong Yu Ming and Aseem K Thakur, who were undergraduate students at the National University of Singapore (NUS) at the time. The concept originated as a university project for the Start-Up@Singapore Social Enterprise Challenge, which it subsequently won, providing the catalyst for its official registration as an organization. Thakur and Pong, who first collaborated on projects in junior college, had previously launched a supper delivery service at NUS and a media startup that curated positive stories.

The platform is designed to make giving straightforward by utilizing social media to facilitate transparent and simple donation administration. It serves both individual fundraisers and registered charities, allowing them to create campaigns for personal needs, medical expenses, or to support non-profit organizations. GIVE.asia has supported fundraising for over 1,000 non-profits across Asia, including in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, and the Philippines. Campaign creators complete a form, upload verifying documents, and then share their live campaign to reach potential donors. The platform verifies the fundraiser's relationship with the beneficiary, along with the beneficiary's identity, medical condition, and financial status to prevent fraud.
GIVE.asia's business model is centered on a 0% platform fee policy, meaning it does not take any administrative fees from donations. Revenue for operational expenses—such as website hosting, staff salaries, and bank charges—is generated through optional tips from donors at the point of transaction. Initially, the founders self-funded the platform, supplemented by grants from organizations like Singtel and DBS. In addition to the tip-based model, the company offers optional consulting services and Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions to non-profits and corporations to enhance their fundraising and corporate social responsibility efforts, which also contributes to its sustainability. Donors can make contributions using credit/debit cards, PayNow, and PayLah (in Singapore), though payment processing fees of 1.5% from payment gateways are deducted from the donation amount.
