About GigaMonster

GigaMonster Networks, established in 2014 and headquartered in Marietta, Georgia, specialized in providing fiber-based internet services to multi-family residential properties, commercial office buildings, and mixed-use developments. The company was co-founded by Bill Dodd, who also served as its CEO. Dodd's background includes extensive experience in the telecommunications industry, having previously been the chairman and CEO of DIRECPATH and the President and COO of Biltmore Communications, where he was a key figure in launching the first IPTV offering in a multifamily community in the U.S.

GigaMonster's primary offering was its Universal Access Network (UAN), an enterprise-grade network designed to provide high-speed IP connectivity throughout entire buildings and outdoor common areas. This service catered to property owners and managers, aiming to increase property value, occupancy, and tenant retention rates by delivering symmetrical internet speeds of up to 10 Gbps. For residents, the service promised a high-quality connection with low latency, particularly beneficial for streaming and online gaming, often without contracts, credit checks, or data caps. The business model involved forming partnerships with property owners to become a managed service provider for their buildings, supporting both resident internet access and the property's own IoT infrastructure needs.

Throughout its operation, GigaMonster expanded its reach across the United States, operating in over 50 markets. Key milestones include a significant funding round and merger with Fibersphere Communications in 2018, which bolstered its West Coast presence. In 2019, Barings Alternative Investments made a majority investment in GigaMonster's parent company, providing capital to further expand its UAN offering. However, the company later faced financial difficulties, leading to bankruptcy. In April 2023, competitor Gigstreem acquired a majority of GigaMonster's assets, a move that more than doubled Gigstreem's footprint. Subsequently, in August 2023, Zentro also acquired strategic assets from the dissolved GigaMonster portfolio in several key markets.
