About GFN.RU

GFN.RU was the Russian partner for NVIDIA's GeForce NOW cloud gaming service, which allowed users to play demanding PC games on various devices through remote servers. Launched in October 2019, the service was operated by GFN.RU (legal entity OOO «Region Estate») and was initially backed by the SFI investment holding (formerly Safmar Group), which invested over 1 billion rubles. The platform operated on a subscription-based business model, offering different tiers, including a free option with basic access and premium subscriptions for enhanced performance and longer session times. It provided access to a library of over 1,000 games, which users needed to own on digital distribution platforms like Steam or Epic Games Store.

The service aimed to make high-end gaming accessible without powerful hardware by streaming gameplay from NVIDIA's servers directly to a user's device. GFN.RU had established partnerships with major Russian telecom operators like Rostelecom, Tele2, and Megafon to bundle its services. In January 2022, Rostelecom announced its intention to acquire a controlling stake in the company, but the deal did not materialize. Due to what the company described as an inability "to ensure the quality of service that our users expect and deserve in the current circumstances," GFN.RU announced its shutdown. The company ceased new registrations on September 1, 2023, and officially shut down its servers on October 1, 2023.
