LEO satellite constellation for future mobility connectivity MoreLess
Geespace, a subsidiary of Geely Technology Group, was established in 2018 to develop, launch, and operate a low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation. The company is a key component of Geely Holding Group's transformation into a global mobility technology group. The CEO and Chief Scientist of Geespace is Tony Wang. Geespace represents China's first privately owned developer, operator, and mass producer of commercial LEO satellites.
The company is building the "Geely Future Mobility Constellation" (GEESATCOM), a network designed to provide integrated communication, navigation, and remote sensing services. The primary mission is to support the future of mobility, particularly for Geely's portfolio of automotive brands which includes Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus, by enabling centimeter-accurate positioning for autonomous driving, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, and intelligent connectivity functions. The first launch of nine GeeSAT-1 satellites occurred in June 2022. The first phase of the project aims to deploy 72 satellites by the end of 2025, with a total of 41 satellites in orbit as of August 2025. The full constellation is planned to consist of 240 satellites.
Geespace has established a full industrial chain including R&D centers, operations centers, and a highly automated satellite production and testing facility in Taizhou, China, with an annual capacity of 500 units. This vertical integration allows for modular, customizable, and cost-effective satellite manufacturing. Beyond the automotive sector, Geespace provides services to other industries such as consumer electronics, logistics monitoring, smart cities, and environmental protection. The company has formed partnerships with telecom operators in over 20 countries to expand its global reach. Revenue is generated by providing these satellite application services, including high-precision positioning, data communication, and remote sensing to a global client base.
