Founded in 2015 by Jacques de La Rivière and Philippe Gillet, both engineering graduates from ESIEA, the company was established to provide advanced, real-time threat detection. Jacques de La Rivière, the CEO, brought experience from roles in software and consulting, including managing high-frequency trading platforms, while CTO Philippe Gillet had a background in cybersecurity consulting as a pentester, SOC analyst, and security architect.

The firm's business model is centered on a 100% indirect sales strategy, utilizing a network of distributors, integrators, and Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) partners to deliver its solutions. This network serves a global client base, protecting critical infrastructures in sectors like banking, defense, energy, and transport. Revenue is generated from the sale of its cybersecurity products and subscriptions to its threat intelligence services. Since its inception, Gatewatcher has achieved several milestones, including obtaining qualification from the French National Agency for the Security of Information Systems (ANSSI), winning the Pass French Tech award, and becoming a founding member of the Cyber Campus in Paris. A significant financial achievement was its first fundraising round in February 2022, securing €25 million. More recently, in June 2025, the company received a €25 million venture debt facility from the European Investment Bank to further fuel innovation and international expansion.

Gatewatcher's core offering is its Network Detection and Response (NDR) platform, Aioniq, which provides a comprehensive view of network activity to detect malicious behavior and cyber risks. Key products include Trackwatch, a solution qualified by ANSSI for operators of vital importance; LastInfoSec, a Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) platform acquired in 2020; and Aionbytes, an advanced sandboxing solution. In 2023, the company launched Gaia, a generative AI assistant integrated into its NDR solution to enhance the capabilities of security operations center (SOC) teams.
