GameOn Fund operates as a venture capital firm with a strategic focus on the burgeoning games sector within the Netherlands. Launched in October 2013, the fund was established to inject capital into early-stage gaming startups that possess differentiated intellectual property and promising business models. The initiative was founded by a group of entrepreneurs led by Reinout te Brake.

The firm's mission is to cultivate the Dutch games industry by supporting local talent and attracting international game development companies to establish a presence in the Netherlands. This objective is supported by the Dutch government, which identifies the gaming industry as a key component of its creative sector focus. GameOn collaborates with the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) to bring foreign gaming entertainment companies into the country. The business model centers on deploying risk capital into these early-stage ventures. The firm's initial fund, Dutch Game Fund I, aimed for a total commitment of €10 million, with intentions to raise capital from both public entities and private investors. However, the fund encountered challenges in securing government financing and has since been listed as liquidated, indicating a shift towards private investment to continue its mission.

GameOn provides capital to companies in the online and mobile games industry, targeting startups for early-stage investment. While initially aiming for a co-funding model with the Dutch government providing a significant portion of the capital, the fund has had to adapt its strategy due to complexities in that process.
