About Galley Solutions

Galley Solutions provides a culinary operating system designed to address inefficiencies in commercial kitchens. The company was founded in 2017 by brothers-in-law Benji Koltai (CEO) and Ian Christopher (COO), and is headquartered in San Diego, California. The idea originated from Koltai's personal experience with food sensitivities and his professional background as a software engineer at the food-delivery platform Sprig. At Sprig, he observed the operational chaos in the kitchen, which often resulted in mislabeled meals, and was inspired to create a technology-driven solution. Koltai, a computer science graduate from Tufts University, leveraged his experience building systems for Sprig to develop the first version of Galley. Christopher's background is in hospitality, farming, and operations management, including experience with his mother's catering business.

Galley operates on a subscription-based (SaaS) model, targeting a diverse client base that includes restaurants, multi-unit operators, non-commercial foodservice, ghost kitchens, and direct-to-consumer platforms. Clients like DoorDash, Aramark, and &pizza utilize the platform. The company's core offering is a food data platform that centralizes recipe information to drive operational decisions. This recipe-first approach ensures that all other functions, from purchasing to labeling, are based on accurate and consistent data. Key features include real-time food cost management, predictive purchasing, inventory management, automated order and prep lists, menu planning, and waste tracking. By mapping recipe ingredients to real-time vendor items, the software allows kitchens to make precise purchasing decisions and calculate accurate margins. The platform can integrate with other food technology software, such as systems for digital displays, label printing, and invoicing, through an open API.

The company has achieved significant growth, reporting a 280% increase in subscription revenue in the year prior to May 2022 and a 146% net dollar retention rate in the first quarter of 2022. Galley Solutions has raised a total of $20 million in funding over two rounds. A Series A round in May 2022, led by impact investor Astanor Ventures with participation from Zetta Venture Partners, brought in $14.2 million. This funding is being used to accelerate product development and expand its customer base. Users of the platform have reported reducing their food waste by an average of 25%.
