About FusionStorm
FusionStorm, Inc. operated as a national provider of IT solutions and managed services before its acquisition by Computacenter in 2018. Founded in 1995 by John Varel, who served as Chairman, the San Francisco-based company was originally known as Synergistic Computer Solutions. Varel, an entrepreneur with a history of developing and turning around ventures, built the company into a nationally recognized solutions provider. Under the leadership of CEO Dan Serpico, who took the helm in 2010 during a period of financial difficulty, FusionStorm grew into a major player in the IT services market.
The company's business model was centered on providing comprehensive IT infrastructure solutions to enterprise clients. This included hardware and software sales, professional services, and managed services, with a strategic shift over the years to focus more on higher-margin services. FusionStorm offered a wide array of solutions encompassing system infrastructure, storage, networking, security, cloud services, and disaster recovery. The company served a diverse client base, including large enterprises and public sector organizations, and held top-tier partner statuses with major technology vendors like Dell EMC, Cisco, and HPE. Revenue was generated through the sale of technology products and a growing portfolio of professional and managed services. A key offering was its Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platform, IT Xpress Cloud, which provided private and hosted cloud solutions.
A significant milestone in the company's history was its acquisition by the UK-based technology provider Computacenter on September 30, 2018. The deal was valued at up to $90 million, plus a $45 million injection to refinance existing debt. The acquisition was a strategic move for Computacenter to establish a strong foothold in the US market, expanding its service capabilities to align with its European offerings and better serve its international clients. At the time of the acquisition, FusionStorm had reported revenues of $595.5 million for the year ended 2017. Following the integration, FusionStorm's operations were merged into Computacenter's US business.
