About Freedom Meditech

Freedom Meditech, Inc. was a medical device company established in 2006 with a focus on developing and commercializing non-invasive technologies for disease detection. The company operated from San Diego, California, and was founded by Craig H. Misrach, who also served as its Chairman and CEO. The firm's strategy centered on creating pain-free alternatives to conventional diagnostic tools for chronic conditions, particularly diabetes.

The company's flagship product was the ClearPath DS-120™, a lens fluorescence biomicroscope. This non-invasive device was designed to measure autofluorescence in the crystalline lens of the eye by scanning it with blue light. The six-second, painless scan provided an immediate quantitative result, which could indicate elevated levels of advanced glycation end products (AGEs). Scientific studies have linked these AGEs to the aging process and the presence of systemic diseases like diabetes, making the ClearPath DS-120 a tool for early detection. The device received FDA 510(k) clearance in January 2013 and was commercially launched in the U.S. in June of that year. It also obtained a CE mark and a Canadian Establishment license, allowing for its sale worldwide.

In addition to the ClearPath, Freedom Meditech was developing the I-SugarX™, a non-invasive, handheld ocular glucose monitor. This device aimed to measure glucose levels in the eye's aqueous humor using proprietary optical polarimetric technology, offering a bloodless, pain-free alternative to the standard 'finger-prick' method for daily glucose monitoring. The company's business model involved the development and sale of these medical devices to healthcare providers in ophthalmology, primary care, and wellness markets. On November 15, 2016, certain assets of Freedom Meditech were acquired by Trividia Health, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Sinocare Group, which led to the creation of a new entity, Sinocare Meditech, to continue the development of the acquired technology.
